⚖ Important Legal Note

A declared criminal case is a pending FIR, chargesheet, or court summons — not a conviction. Under Indian law, every accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty. This data reflects candidates' own sworn disclosures and is published here in the public interest under the Supreme Court's right-to-know doctrine (PUCL v. Union of India, 2003).

Data Sources & Methodology

Primary source: Nomination affidavits filed by winning candidates with the Election Commission of India, West Bengal 2026 assembly election. Affidavits are public documents available on the ECI's Affidavit Disclosure portal and the MyNeta portal maintained by ADR India.

What "cases" means: Each affidavit requires candidates to disclose (a) pending criminal cases where a court has taken cognisance, (b) cases where chargesheets have been filed, and (c) cases pending trial. Acquitted cases, withdrawn cases, and cases under appeal are handled differently — this table reflects only pending cases as declared.

"Serious/Heinous" flag: The Election Commission categorises certain IPC sections as serious — including murder (302), attempt to murder (307), rape (376), kidnapping (363/364), robbery/dacoity (392–402), and offences punishable with 5+ years. This flag is set where affidavits disclose cases under these sections.

Asset figures: Self-declared total assets (movable + immovable) from the same affidavit. These are declared values, not independently verified.

Data status: Affidavit data for all 294 winning MLAs is being compiled from ECI/ADR India records published post-election. Rows marked with * are pending full affidavit verification. This table will be updated as data is confirmed.

To update: Edit the MLA_DATA array in the <script> tag. Each object documents its own fields. Add a row, save — the table re-renders automatically.
